UEA 2016-2017 Dean's Prize

Winner of the 2016-2017 University of East Anglia's Dean's Prize

I was awarded first prize in the annual Dean’s Prize at the University of East Anglia, a competition open to all second-year Arts and Humanities Students. I responded to a prompt regarding Utopia with a short story of 1,000 words titled,"The World According to K", is a piece of speculative fiction that imagines a world where all truth is determined by the will of one character, K.

Excerpt from "The World According to K"

"“This organization was founded on the basis that all governmental, ideological, and otherwise dogmatic systems have failed. Conflict, war, terror. The UCP thinks it possible to abolish these. We had our experts compile questions about the most important literary and artistic pieces regarding radical structures- 1984, Brave New World, The Time of the Hero, Banksy- and sent out a survey. Only citizens well-versed in these monumental works made the final selection. Then we randomly chose one individual from that list. You. Now…ready to begin?”

K leaned back.

“Yes.”

“Good. Easy ones first, then specifics. Government?”"
